This is the final portfolio piece we make as a class before college applications. A lot of (but not all) our students pursue higher education. In this project we look at the history of pattern making from designers such as William Morris and contemporary artists like Kehinde Wiley. Students then develop a piece where they create a pattern, illustrate an object or figure and play with our understanding of space as they float that object/figure within the imagined space of the pattern.
